Booking Time for DMK Live Animal Shipments
Booking for live animal cargo shipments should be made 1 to 2 days before departure. This allows us to ensure that all documentation, quarantine procedures, and packaging are properly completed, ensuring the shipment is handled correctly and minimizing delays due to procedural issues, especially for first-time shippers. Once you are familiar with the procedures and documentation requirements, bookings can be made closer to the departure date.

Receiving Live Animal Shipments
Live animal shipments that meet procedural requirements and complete documentation, including proper packaging standards, can be accepted at DMK Cargo® Port Centers up to 120 minutes before the aircraft’s departure and at DMK Cargo® Port Agents up to 240 minutes before departure. To facilitate the acceptance process, it is highly recommended to follow the provided guidelines for live animal shipments according to the specific type and category of the animals.
Receiving Live Animal Shipments at Destination
At the destination airport, live animal shipments should be received within 60 to 120 minutes after the aircraft's arrival. Documentation for receipt should be prepared to facilitate the administrative process of clearing the shipment. It is recommended to follow established procedures for handling arrivals to ensure that the live animals are not adversely affected by physical disturbances, temperature changes, pressure differences, or other conditions.

Shipping Requirements
For the safety of live animal shipments, we require that all documentation requirements be prepared before the shipping process begins.
General Requirements
- Health Certificate
Copies: Provide 2 copies (original and one copy) issued and signed by a licensed veterinarian, valid for 10 days of travel. For return trips, a second health certificate is required. The certificate must include: a. The origin country, area, or location where, within a specific period, no quarantine animal diseases transmissible by the species have been reported. b. Confirmation that at the time of departure, the animal shows no symptoms of communicable diseases, is free of ectoparasites, and is in good health and fit for travel. - Sanitation Certificate
According to Government Regulation No. 82 of 2000 on animal quarantine, this certificate must include: a. The origin country, area, or location where, within a specific period, no quarantine animal diseases have been reported. b. Confirmation that the animal is healthy.\ c. Assurance that the animal is free from pests and diseases that could be transmitted through animal products or by-products. d. For human consumption, compliance with veterinary public health regulations and applicable laws. - Certificate of Animal Origin
Must include details about the product, country, area, or place of origin, and sanitation treatment. - Quarantine Certificate
Issued by the local quarantine authority, in accordance with Law No. 16 of 1992 on Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine. All animals, fish, and plants transported from one area to another must undergo quarantine procedures. - Recommendation Letter from the destination's livestock authority, confirming that the destination area can accept the type of animal being shipped from outside the region.
- Rabies Vaccination Certificate
Provide one copy issued and signed by a licensed veterinarian in accordance with local regulations. If your dog or cat is under 12 weeks old, vaccination is not required. For warm-blooded animals in temperatures below 7°C, it is advised to carry a valid certificate. Ensure temperature regulations are followed to safeguard the animal during shipment. - Sedation Report

Special Requirements
- Exotic Animals / Wild Birds
If shipping exotic animals or wild birds, you will need a certificate detailing information about their breeding in captivity or their transfer to/from a zoo, sanctuary, rehabilitation center, wildlife health institution, or relevant government wildlife agency. - Primates
Primates must be at least six months old and presented at the cargo terminal. The shipper or a certified agent must provide a written certificate on the shipper’s letterhead, including the airway bill, indicating that the primate was born or raised in captivity or is being shipped to/from a zoo, sanctuary, or rehabilitation center. DMK Cargo does not accept primates used for laboratory research, experimentation, or exploitation without documentation from the relevant authorities. - Live tropical fish and other marine/river products
Shipments of live tropical fish, live fish, and marine products (e.g., coral, seaweed) must include adequate saltwater to ensure the survival of the animals during transit. However, excessive saltwater can cause corrosion to aircraft components. - Live reptiles, small mammals
For live reptiles (e.g., snakes, lizards, turtles) and small mammals (e.g., mice, squirrels, rodents, bats), containers must ensure that the animals cannot escape through small gaps, as bites or scratches can damage aircraft wiring and pose flight risks. - Other Animals
For other types of animals, consult with the local livestock authority for specific requirements. For specialized animal shipments, DMK Cargo adheres to applicable regulations, government regulations, and relevant authority guidelines, as well as IATA’s live animal shipping regulations.

Live animals are highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations throughout the shipping process, from departure and air transport to arrival at the destination. Ensure you understand the temperature requirements for the specific animals you are shipping to guarantee their safe arrival. For detailed guidance on temperature management for each type of live animal, refer to the “Live Animal” shipping guidelines.
The mechanism or procedure for shipping animals by air follows these steps:
- Reach out to the DMK Cargo call center to make a booking or reservation, confirm the shipping schedule, departure time, and destination, including the availability of space on the aircraft and potential connecting flights.
- Ensure all required documents are complete and accurate according to the type of live animal being shipped, including quarantine requirements from the local quarantine authority.
- Quarantine Process Requirements : a. Inspect the animal to ensure its documentation is complete and to detect any pests or diseases. b. Isolation and Observation. c. Treatment: Implement pest control measures if the animal is infected or not free from harmful organisms. d. Rejection: If preventive treatment is administered and the animal cannot be cured, resulting in non-compliance with quarantine requirements, the animal will be rejected. e. Destruction: If the live animal is found to be infected with pests or diseases before, during, or upon arrival, and cannot be cured despite treatment, it will be destroyed. f. Release: The live animal will be deemed suitable for shipment or acceptance if it has been inspected and confirmed free of quarantine pests and diseases, or after successful treatment and clearance of harmful organisms.
- Comply with packaging and labeling requirements specific to the type and category of live animal. The sender must adhere to the established packaging standards and provide a “live animal” tag on each container.
- Live Animal Storage. Follow detailed storage guidelines based on the animal type. In general, storage should a. Ensure containers are securely structured to prevent shifting during aircraft loading. b. Keep containers upright, following position stickers. c. Provide adequate ventilation for breathing. d. Use flooring materials that cover wood or similar materials. e. Protect sensitive animals from extreme wind and temperature with coverings. f. Avoid placing different species together.
- Food and other additional articles. Prepare necessary food for the animal during transit, including calculating the chargeable weight. Food can be included in the animal’s packaging with feeding instructions. If sent separately, label the food packaging accordingly.
- Consolidation. Live animals should not be consolidated with non-animal cargo.
Special Shipping Regulations to Observe for Live Animal Transport are as follows:
- Adhere to IATA’s Live Animal Regulation for air transport of live animals.
- Follow all applicable laws, government regulations, and transportation ministry regulations related to the air transport of live animals.
- Provide a written declaration of shipment, signed by the shipper.
- Ensure that the live animal packaging meets the design standards outlined in the IATA Live Animal Regulation and the packaging guidelines provided by DMK Cargo®.
- Follow the marking and labeling standards as specified in the Live Animal guidelines.
- Make reservations or bookings for the shipment in advance.
- Ensure that the transport of live animals complies with government regulations concerning protected species.

- Go to the local Animal Husbandry Office (according to the registrant's ID). Inform them of your intention to send animals such as birds, chickens, earthworms, dogs, or cats, etc. You will be asked to fill out a form that includes details such as the type and quantity of animals. There is no standard payment fee; it is voluntary.
- Visit the animal quarantine section at the airport where you will be sending the animals. Here, you will receive a quarantine certificate with a fee per animal, depending on the type of animal.
- Take the animals and the quarantine certificate to the airport cargo section for processing the shipment. The shipping cost is based on the volume of the packaging/kennel.
- Fill out the recipient's name and address. The recipient should bring their ID (KTP or other identification) to verify their identity when picking up the animals/package at the destination airport.
- Ensure the health and condition of the live animal. Only animals in good health and appearing fit can travel by air transport.
- Provide sufficient food 2 hours before departure, including preparing additional food placed outside the enclosure with instructions for feeding during the journey.
- Ensure proper packaging using the correct storage/container according to the type of animal being shipped. Guidelines for the type of storage/container based on the type of animal can be found in the live animal guide.
- Make sure to apply the appropriate labels (marking) on the live animal storage/container. Attach a “LIVE ANIMAL” label, and if applicable, a “POISONOUS” label on containers for animals that could pose a danger due to venomous bites or stings.
