• Dimension (Optional)

The system for calculating shipping rates via air, land, and sea differs according to the applicable regulations and policies. To ensure transparency and customer convenience for air shipments, DMK Cargo® provides detailed information on the procedures, terms, and conditions of air freight rates, allowing customers to calculate their costs independently using the "DMK Calculator."

The rate calculation procedures, requirements, and terms are generally differentiated based on the weight of the goods, the volume of the goods, the type of goods, the destination of the shipment, as well as specific regulations and policies from individual airline operators.

General Air Cargo Terms

Air shipping rates are determined based on the air cargo rates set from the departure airport to the destination airport, applicable for both direct flights and connecting flights.

Weight Terms

The transportation of goods is determined based on the gross weight of the goods (actual gross weight) or volume (the volume weight is calculated based on the Length x Width x Height of the shipment).

The rate calculation is based on whichever is greater—weight or volume. If the weight calculation exceeds the volume calculation, the weight is used, and vice versa.

Volume Weight Calculation

Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Sriwijaya Air & Pelita :
Volume Weight (kg) = Length (cm) X Width (cm) X Height (cm) ÷ 6000

Lion Air, Batik Air & Super Jet :
Volume Weight (kg) = Length (cm) X Width (cm) X Height (cm) ÷ 5000

  • If the actual gross weight is greater than the volume weight, the actual gross weight will be used as the basis for the rate calculation.
  • If the volume weight is greater than the actual gross weight, the volume weight will be used as the basis for the rate calculation.

Minimum Rate Calculation

The minimum rate calculation applies to shipments with a minimum weight of 10 kg or less.

Normal Rate Calculation

The normal rate is derived from the applicable base rate and applies to general cargo and similar items. It does not include items classified under live animals, perishables, pharmaceuticals, dangerous goods, or human remains.

Additional Surcharge Calculation

Surcharge rates apply under the following conditions:

  • The weight of the item exceeds the normal weight based on Koli, Kg, and SMU regulations.
  • The item falls outside the category of General Cargo.
  • The shipment is classified as Heavy Cargo.
  • The item belongs to the Special Cargo category, including Valuable Cargo, Pharmaceuticals, Live Animals, Perishables, Dangerous Goods, and Human Remains.
  • The item requires additional services.

Shipping Cost Calculation

Minimum Rate: Calculated as 10 kg (min) x Applicable Normal Rate per Kg, based on the airline and destination city.
* The minimum rate applies to all types of goods.

General Cargo Rate: Calculated as Weight (kg) x Applicable Normal Rate per Kg, based on the airline and destination city.

Heavy Cargo Rate: Calculated as Weight (kg) for Heavy Cargo category x Applicable Normal Rate per Kg + Surcharge (%) based on Heavy Cargo category.
* Heavy Cargo Surcharge details can be found in the Heavy Cargo table.

Special Cargo Rate: Calculated as Weight (kg) for Special Cargo category x Applicable Normal Rate per Kg + Surcharge (%) based on Special Cargo category.
* Special Cargo Surcharge details can be found in the Special Cargo table.

Additional Costs Outside of Shipping Rates:

  1. SMU Document Fee.
  2. Box/Packaging Fee based on the type and size.
  3. Wooden Crate Packing Fee calculated based on the volume of goods.
  4. Handling Fees (warehouse, X-ray).
  5. Tax 1.1%.

Maximum Shipping Quantity & Weight (Per Package & Per AWB)

The maximum shipping weight for each airline operator varies. Here are the maximum shipping policies per AWB (Air Waybill) as per airline operators.

Garuda Indonesia 311 Kg 514 Package 7500 Kg
Lion Air 300 Kg 15 Package 400 Kg

* Maximum Quantity & Weight: Policies for the maximum quantity and weight per package and per AWB may change at any time based on the airline operator's policies, without prior notice.

Surcharge Costs Based on Maximum Weight Per Package (Heavy Cargo)

The maximum weight that is NOT subject to a surcharge is based on the maximum weight limit per package. An additional fee (surcharge) will be applied for shipments exceeding the maximum weight limit per package according to each airline's regulations, as follows:

  • The additional fee (surcharge) is calculated as a percentage (%) based on the weight of the cargo.
  • The surcharge is calculated as a percentage of the base rate.
  • Surcharges for weight do not apply to volume weight; shipments with such weights cannot be combined into consolidated shipments.
  • The following are the surcharge calculation rules based on the weight from each airline.

Special Cargo Surcharge Costs

The calculation for surcharge costs associated with special cargo is as follows:

  1. Minimum rate applies for shipments with a minimum weight of 10 kg.
  2. The cost is calculated by multiplying the weight of the shipment by the normal rate per kg, plus a surcharge percentage based on the type of special cargo.
